Welcome to the ASAM Portal! This is Carelon’s hub for all American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)-related information for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) providers.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) has developed resources to assist providers with understanding and applying the ASAM Criteria. Carelon encourages SUD providers of all levels of care to read the ASAM Criteria, 2013 textbook, attend DDAP’s Technical Assistance series, and review DDAP’s ASAM Transition Webpage which is updated regularly with new information for providers.

DHS is requiring that Behavioral Health Managed Care Organizations (BH-MCOs) conduct ASAM Monitoring Reviews of all ASAM Level 3 Medicaid Providers in Pennsylvania. All Providers have been assigned one (1) BH-MCO to conduct the review.  At this time, ASAM Monitoring Reviews are not required for outpatient providers or hospital-based providers.
